The following morning Jasper and I went our separate ways and I was on a train to Banyuwangi where the ferry would take me back to Gilimanuk, Bali. Jasper had warned me never to take a train unless it was executive class but executive was sold out so I ended up on an overnight train in business. I didn’t think it would be that bad because business class on an airplane is very nice but I was so wrong! DON’T EVER TAKE AN OVERNIGHT TRAIN IN INDONESIA UNLESS YOU ARE IN EXECUTIVE CLASS! The seats are these tiny benches for two with no arm rests and everyone smokes in the cars. There was no air conditioning so all the windows were down and the entire night, as the train buzzed by other stations along the way, I heard bells and sirens scream passed. I had nightmares of ax murderers attacking and people dying in war. It was so trippy! And if you can imagine being a girl and having to go to the bathroom over a squat toilet with no handles to brace yourself on a moving train….well, it’s just not a pretty picture. Thank goodness for hand sanitizer!! But none the less I am so glad to have had the experience.

The back of my train
In the morning, after being disoriented and getting lost, I found my way to the ferry and was able to enjoy yet another sunrise over the water and the nearby mountains. I even met a friend named Choky from Surabaya who was on his way to Kuta, Bali for holiday.
